Women In Tech

2020-02-16

Celebrating GALentines (yes, it’s a real thing!) at the women in tech conference was perfectly fitting. The event was thought provoking, motivating and full of inspirational women that left you feeling like you can take on the world. And thanks to Emer Maguire, who was the conference host, full of giggles!!

Jennifer Neff, Co- CEO of Elemental in her session said ‘You don’t have to be a technical woman to be a woman in tech’ something that resonated with me as I personally worried about having only joined the world of tech seven months ago.

The transition from one career to another was never going to be a smooth process, and I am extremely lucky that Outsource welcomed me with open arms. I’ve never been made me feel that my lack of technical skills was an issue, instead the focus is placed on the experiences, knowledge and skills that I can bring to the team.

In speaking of her successful career Aislinn Rice, MD at Analytics Engines shared a little of her story, the takeaway piece of advice for me was when she said  ‘Be honest, if you don’t know, say you don’t know and be willing to ask for help’. This is a key message that is also valued in Outsource, where advice and support are always available for career and personal issues.

Keynote speaker Priya Lakhani left us with the resounding message; “The team you surround yourself with is really important. Girls can be puppy’s or cats. You decide who you network with, but your team should be made of class ‘A’ people.”  I personally feel lucky to be part of a team of people who support, uplift and motivate each other. Outsource call it DNA, you must be a certain type of person to become part of the team, not everyone gets to work here!

We are back to work, motivated and ready to take on the world after such an inspiring event. Proud to be able to work for a business that partners with other leading IT companies across NI  in collaboration with Women In Business to create conferences like this, encourages staff to attend and doesn’t limit anyone because of gender.

We understand the benefits and positive impact that diversity has to business culture, performance, innovation and growth. We are proud that we have been awarded the Diversity Charter Mark, and increased our workforce to 19%  female as part of our ongoing diversity strategy. We are committed to equipping and empowering our current and future workforce to make life better for everyone on our team.
